You've have to make that decision for yourself, based on all of your data collection. Good Luck!

If you go to this website Delaware Sex Offender Central Registry and look at Smyrna, a lot of the offenders have an address of 1181 Paddock Rd. which is the department of corrections.

Yes, Bill....Some are in prison, some are not.

We lived in the Smyrna-Clayton area for 40 years. The early years were like most small communities, no problems. I remember when DCC was built, a huge mushroom in the middle of a farm field. There was such a panic on Paddock Road, and everybody wanted to sell their properties. I was raised on a farm in that area (Smyrna Landing) before the prison was built. I believe there are some listings on that road, now.

Guys...don't leave me hanging like that! I have spent and continue to spend what seems like every waking minute trying to get smart on what areas are good prospects for my and my family. My biggest consideration on where to live is the school system. Fifer (Fred) Middle School seems to be rated as on of the best in the area and if I can find a home in that district I'm there. However, prices might keep me out. I have no doubt that I'll be approved for more but between 529 plans for my kids, insurance policies, and our family savings...$250,000.00 is it. So long as I am active duty Air Force my wallet can't handle more.

We've looked a Smyrna several times and while the schools are not rated as high as they are in other communities. Parental involvement is the single largest influence in a childs educational success. Having said that, we can get into a new home in Willowwood with a finished basement, fireplace, and an island in the kitchen for $250,000 after incentives. If I am reading the map correctly, Willowwood is about 2 miles North of the Dover city limit so any crimes that are in Smyrna would most likely be pretty far North of us. What are your thoughts?

As always, thanks. Mike

Willowwood is off Brenford Road, which is approximately 2.5+/- south of Smyrna, and about 4 miles north of Dover. Location of that subdivision is west of U.S. Route 13, and east of Wheatley's Pond Rd. (Route 300). The Brenford Road area has a 19977 zip code, a Smyrna address and is in the Smyrna School District.

Mike..........In reference high sex offender count. I had posted that many were duplicates. Then I went back to check and couldn't support my claim. Although, it seems I had seen or heard this before, I can't back it up. Sorry

Hi Mike,

Personally, I would choose CRSD over Smyrna, but that is just me. From our experience, parental involvement seems pretty high in our kids' schools (one elementary, one at Fifer MS) as well. As far as real estate available within your price range, when we were looking a few months ago on realtor.com, there were several properties under $250K in the Caesar Rodney district. PM me if I can help you more with what insight we have gained in our almost one year here in DE.

Mary
