We have been hearing conflicting stories about the cost of gas vs. electric in the Hovnanian 55+ communities. Any insight would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks.

Our gas bill this last month was $122.37. That's a full 30 days in the billing period, for winter. (And I cook a lot so our gas stove gets a lot of use)
Electric the last time I paid it was $92.93.
I'm not sure if your electric company would differ from ours because you are in a different neighborhood (We have the Delaware Electric Co-op), but I think Chesapeake Gas provides for a wider area so you probably have that.

Our house is about 2500 sq ft (including the finished basement) At this time we do have someone home all day. And we keep our house at 68 this time of year.

Wanted to give you some numbers so you can kind of estimate what you are looking at based on your usage and size of the house to heat/light/etc.

There's "gas" and there's "gas". Some communities are serviced by public gas, and some are not. Some communities advertise gas heat, although it could be propane gas (a different animal). With propane, a gas tank is buried in the yard. Then, there are all electric heat pumps, and also oil heat. We chose oil heat, although public gas is available to us.
