We will be visiting the Wilmington/Newark area this weekend while my husband works. I have two kids 7 and 1 and was interested in finding fun things to do with them. Ex. playgrounds, kid museums, etc. We live in North Carolina and make plenty of visits to the beach so we'd rather stay in the Wilmington/Newark area and explore. Any ideas?

There's a nice children's museum in Wilmington on the Riverfront. My 4- and 5-year-olds love it. Closer to Newark, there's a huge playground in Glasgow on Route 40. Enjoy your visit!

There's also a nice Nature center at the Riverfront in Wilmington, very close to the Children's Museum. North of Wilmington, off of Rt 202, is the Can-Do Playground, I've heard a lot of good things about that.

A few things we used to do in the Wilmington area when I lived there and family visited (1 year old could be an issue!) and I wonder how these are doing? I have been gone for over 10 years now:

Brandywine Zoo (it was OK .. not like Philly, Baltimore or DC)
Natural History Museum on Rte 52
Fort Delaware on Pea Patch island
Battery Park in Old New Castle
Funscape at the Regal Theaters on Concord Pike

Just a few different ideas
