Hi all,
I would appreciate additional input from people who know Delaware. I live in the Rockies, but originally from New England. The summers hear are fantastic but winters are too long and it is high desert so lacking lush green, plus I live in an area with no opportunity for career advancement. Looking to find an area that might meet the following:
Single, Professional work/medical, Green trees, Near water, milder winters, and easy access to horse boarding/trails (I ride western).
These are all tough orders to fill as I continue my journey to find eutopia, but realizing I may need to give up something. Please don't be offended by following dislikes as we all have things we find appealing....

Austin great city but the rolling hills weren't so rolling and green, too sticky hot summers
Portland too wet/mold
Phoenix- could care less if I ever see a sage bush again!
Florida too flat, too hot, no green except palm trees.
Carolina's-raleigh wasn't too bad, north carolina was absolutely gorgeous BUT first time I felt like a northerner.
Montana- winters too long

One of the interesting things is that if I was married I think I would find myself on a small, wooded urban ranch within easy drive to a culture filled city, but that is not the case...therefore a small town with just families won't be enough. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks

lower Delaware is flat. Beautiful area offering employment in the medical field and easy commute to additional medical facilities in Dover and Salisbury,Md area. There would be plenty of opportunity to board/ride your horse. Mostly small town/rural family area except the beach area which jumps during the summer.

I agree with longnecker -
Plus, there are many horse boarding stables, riding schools, and horse farmettes in the Milton, Delaware area (Sussex County). Horse farms and boarding available in Dover/Hartly areas, too (Kent County). Lots of people here buy a home with 2-5 acres ($200,000 - up) and don't have to board their horses. Delaware is an agricultural state.

DelAware - correct spelling

There is horse boarding and riding trails available in the so-called Chateau Country of northern Delaware, north of Wilmington. That gives you rather more cultural opportunities and puts you within easy striking distance of Philadelphia (though I'm not personally that fond of Philly). Also very easy to take the train up to NYC or down to DC.

You aren't terribly far from water anywhere in Delaware.

Going along with this, there are many hospitals, including Christiana, and medical centers/doctor offices. I know two people in the medical field who just got jobs within days of each other at good salaries. Lums Pond State Park has horseback riding and stables, there is the C&D canal, and many cultural activities that are no more than an hour away. It is an easy drive to the beaches, not just Delaware beaches but also Maryland and Jersey. You can also check out Fair Hill, Maryland, which is also considered horse country. I think this is a great area, so make a trip here to check everything out.

Southeastern Delaware (that's where the DE beaches are) is flat and rather marshy and/or sandy in most areas. However, there are still plenty of leafy, green trees along with many varieties of pines. I live in southeast DE, just two miles from the coast and many people ride horses here--Delaware Seashore State Park, Assawoman Wildlife Refuge, Cape Henlopen....I have seen horses at all of these parks/refuges. There are quite a few horse farms near my house in Ocean View, and I have also heard they board horses.

The medical field is one of the few booming fields around here so you're in luck. We have mild winters, but our summers can get pretty nasty....highs in the 90's to over 100 for days (weeks sometimes) on end and very high humidity from June through September. Thankfully, we've dodged that bullet so far this year and actually had a spring season.
