Lots of campers are here, and more on the way. The fun began this past Wednesday night, and starting today (Friday) will be a good time for non-race fans to steer clear of the area near K-Mart, Pizza Hut, Dover Downs, Dover Mall and related areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of us can't get enough of the excitement!

One of two weekends ( can guess what the other was? :P ) that was a love/hate thing working there. Money was awesome ( the love ) but getting to work majorly sucked and thus the hate. They kept a small section for us employees who worked there at the Casino/racetrack to park our cars and had to be there very early. Had a nice view of the race during work and break which was another perk. Outside of work you wouldn't catch me anywhere near that mess if i could help it.

I understand. It's not for everybody. We so much enjoy the people....all friendly and no attitudes. In the Festival Buffet, starting 2-3 days before the race, they close the curtains so nobody can enjoy the view of the track, the qualifying, and excitement. That always irritates us. We love that our local economy benefits twice/year from Nascar. The next race is in September.

And, the next big boom to Dover's economy is Firefly being held in the woods of Dover Downs, mid June. It will be bigger than last year!

Yeah most i ran into at work were pretty nice. Always the few exceptions but you know how that goes. And yes the local economy benefits greatly. Heck alot of the state does as most hotels/motels tend to be booked from the coast to Wilmington during these 2 weekends.

Not as great for the beach hotels as it used to be.

I know, here in the Dover area, also. Big decline in attendance, not just Dover Downs track, but nationwide.
No jobs, high price gasoline, tight economy.....people don't have the money to spend.

We traveled up and down Rt. 13 freely during the entire race weekend - used to be, couldn't do that.
