Hi Elizamary,

Trust me ... I'm not just going to wake up on November 7, 2010 and say "OK .. 26.2 miles today. Here we go!".

In spring, summer and early fall, I usually walk three to four times a week, ranging between three and four miles. One big trick to the training is keeping up that momentum when the weather turns colder, like now. Without motivation, who wants to walk in the cold?

When I did the 1992 Marathon, I walked for 1,000 miles that year to train. The walks during the week are usually between 4 and 6 miles each day, with Sundays being the "longer" walks, usually 8 to 12 miles, but there are also three sessions that range between 18 and 20 during the final two months of training. (Mondays are always off days after the long walks on Sundays.)

I'll use 2008 for getting myself into better condition, 2009 to enter some of the shorter races (between four and ten miles) to work on the competitve edge I need, and 2010 to do the full Marathon training program.

There are a few other things I'll need to train. For example, to ask a guy with 58 year old kidneys to involve himself in a 6+ hour athletic event that requires drinking a lot of water and yet not stopping to ... well, you know.

Charley

I just wanted to come and say hello to everyone. I hope everyone is well.

I have a serious family issue which is keeping me somewhat occupied during the day and will for "a while". I may have to cancel my trip to Delaware in December, but I'm holding off on that decision for a little while. Of course, if I do travel, I'll share with you what's happened - or would respond in private if asked.

So if you see that my rate of posting declines, please understand it's only due to the current family problem, which I hope resolves very quickly.

Hi charley,
Sorry you are having problems. Hope they get resolved soon. In the meantime, you have to do what you have to do.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Charley,

Travel-worn and tired, and only time for a few threads. I'm glad I chose this one to be among them.

I so hope that all goes well for you and your family.

Thanks Lori ... and Delly and Elizamary. This last hour or so has my first chance to catch up with mail, messages, my website, etc. I really do appreciate everyone's good thoughts and hope that the end of this situation comes quickly, painlessly and peacefully.

Hey Julie............Welcome back.
And traveling is tiresome, isn't it. I'm just now getting back on Eastern time, I think.
Hope your Thanksgiving was worth it and that you had a great time.

Charlie........we were up NY yesterday. I thought of our favorite New Yorker!

Went to see the Rockettes.
FABULOUSO.....
Ever been. They are amazing and the show was the best!!

Also......Hope things are going better for you.

My mom passed away this afternoon after a 12-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. I'll be away from the keyboard for most of the next few days. I'll see you all when I return.

Charley,
So sorry to hear that news. She is at peace, now. God Bless you and yours.
