Our condo association is proposing new landscaping complete with an irrigation system for our condos at the beach. The proposal says:
" Typically, an irrigation system uses 20 gallons per minute . . . In certain times of the season, the system could run for two hours or more per day."

The majority of owners seem to be favoring the idea. Easy, I guess, since our water bill is a flat rate and they don't seem to care we could be using 2,400 extra gallons of water a day in season to keep a lawn green AT THE BEACH!

I've been googling but I can't find much about the Sussex County water supply. What I've found addresses water quality issues, but not supply quantity issues.

If anyone is involved in local ecological organizations that might have some ammunition for me, I'd appreciate it. It just seems so wrong to use all that water for places that aren't even year-round homes.

They would most be using wells pulling up ground water.

They almost always use separate wells for irrigation.

Hi, thanks.
There doesn't seem to be a well involved. The proposal clearly states that it will be the local water system that will be drawn from. It emphasizes that the cost will be low because the town has flat rate water billing. I should perhaps note that this is a SMALL condo -- three units.
