Hi,

Considering possible position at Aberdeen Proving Grounds but not interested in living in Md for a handful of reasons. Can anyone recommend some towns in DE that are within say 50 minutes of APG? Schools would be upmost importance not nightlife stuff. I like the idea of DE for quicker access to Philly area and parts North as well as affordability. Thanks

Consider Nottingham Green, a development inside the Newark city limits but very suburban-feeling. I know of at least one family that moved there several years back when the Aberdeen staff was growing rapidly. It's a straight shot down I-95. The elementary school, John R. Downes, is pretty good, not sure about beyond that.

That would probably be the Appoquinimink School District -- there is a portion of it north of the canal. There are people who commute to APG from it.

Kristin,

Thanks for answering that is the district. Could you tell me what you mean by north of the canal?

The C&D canal cuts across New Castle County. Most of the Appoquinimink district is south of the canal, but there is a portion that is north, and thus a shorter commute to APG.

We live just north of Rt 40, and my husband commutes to APG. It takes him about 40 minutes each way.

Appoquinimink School District has a good reputation, but it's growing faster than they can build schools. Some class sizes have grown very large as a result.
