We are looking into relocating to an area around the DE beaches. Ocean View seems to have good schools and nice houses. We have the ability to work from home so work commute is a non issue. What is very important to us is a family friendly community with other school age kids around. Our price range is $250-$350k and if we could be within a quick drive to the beach that would be a plus. We travel to Rehoboth frequently and have spent time in Lewes, Dewey and Bethany as well. Since we have had so many fond memories in DE we have been thinking about moving for many years now. In our price range given what we are looking for are there communities, developments and builders you would recommend? I know that there are many areas that gear more to seasonal part time residents however we plan on staying year round. Any and all honest feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You'll find a decent home in OV for that price range. As far as builders....I have lived in my home for almost sixteen years and have heard good and bad about all builders. I'm out of the loop as far as that goes.

OV and Bethany are filled with retirees. Most communities have families here and there, but it appears the newer communities have more families than the older ones. I live in an older community and it's filled with retirees and many weekenders/summer people--few year-round families. It's always been that way.

I have heard that Millville by the Sea (one town over) is marketed towards families and appears to have more families than other communities. It's also in your price range. There are some nice developments off Cedar Neck Road I'd recommend, but I'm not sure if there are many families. They are really decent though--Cedar Landing, Murrays, Bethany Preserve--and all in your price range.

Thank you beachliz for the wonderful feedback. We definitely will be looking into these communities and appreciate your perspective. This is certainly encouraging as it seemed there was not many families with children in the area.

Hello Liz,

I'm considering a move from NJ. I'd be bringing my 95 year old Mom. We would have to find a part time caregiver. Would you know if that area has quality caregiver agencies or are private caregiver's available. How about doctor's and hospitals? Do you have any feedback for me as to the quality of geriatric care?

If you don't mind, I'd love the name of the community you live in. I'm looking at Noble Ponds mainly because they have a salt water pool......for me! It's kind of far from the beach however.

Laura

Hi! Personally, I don't know much about caregivers (never needed one), but I've seen their services advertised locally and there are also local facebook pages where you can advertise that you are looking for a caregiver.

I believe we have great health care and hospitals here. I've never had an issue with them, but it seems that we do need more doctors in this area for the growing population, much of which are retirees. That's the biggest issue in health care--we need more doctors as the ones we have stay very, very busy.

We don't have a pool in my community and they (HOA) won't allow us to have our own.....so if you are looking for a pool, then this is not an ideal community.

Hope this helps!
