lonhnecker: Safeway was always good back there and had the best prices. Even beat Wal-Mart most of the time. But yes, we've only been here three weeks and we do intend to check out the other stores.

rdlr: You've got that right about the real estate taxes. They're a real show stopper and why we left. Can't afford them on a retirement income without having to move into a trailer.

Good Luck to you! Seems you made a good choice. Hubby and I are spoiled having been here 71+ years. We don't know any different.

I'm really surprised there doesn't seem to be a Costco in Sussex County. Does anyone know of any plans to build one?

Caladium,

Wait until you get to Lewes and discover they do not allow fast food chains in Lewes! Other than a Dairy Queen right next to Lewes Bay - no fast food chains permitted! Plenty of individally owned resturants in town to choose from.

We have food sales tax here in Utah. =( We had none in Ohio.

I coupon & use the grocerysmarts website to get the best deals. They show the deals & what coupons to use in your area. I buy on sale & stretch food all I can. =) Good luck shoppers! I love to save. =)

For fruits and vegetables, try the Gigante Market in Milford. It's in the same shopping center as Abbott's Grill. Their prices are amazing..got blueberries there for $1.50, same for strawberries. Red peppers were $1.74 (a piece!) at Walmart... $1.49/lb. at Gigante. Everything is much less expensive. Lots of unusual veggies and spices. We hit it at least twice a month.

EM - have you tried the open air fruit and veggie mart on Rte 1 right by the Bower's Beach exit? Can't think of the name right now but it is the only produce stand there on Rte 1. They are only open seasonally but we have had great produce there in the past.
