I'm planning on moving to Delaware. I've seen that there aren't many Jews, from statitstics. I understand there is prejudice all over but can you tell me if you think I'm making a mistake? What areas, if any, are better than another? I don't give anyone else a problem and I don't want any for my children or me. I know I'm not going to Indian River School District but that's about it. Any information is greatly appreciated.

All I know is that the Congregation Beth Shalom is in Dover on Queen Street (I think) Welcome To Congregation Beth Sholom Online! and that when my wife and I get there in a few years, there will be two more of us.

Thanks CMTAD. How often have you been to Delaware? Do you have any children?

I'm sure there are jewish people throughout DE. My Avon Team leader is jewish. One of our residents in Southern Meadows is Jewish. I never thought about it but it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm catholic and was surprised there are not many Catholic Churchs in this area.
I came from Philly and we had one on just about every corner.

Thanks elizamary. I don't expect a problem, just checking. It looks like the only Temples are in Dover, Wilmington or going out of state. If anyone knows of somewhere else, please let me know. I get along with everyone. I believe what I believe, don't push my beliefs on others and don't want others to push their beliefs on me. I've raised my children teaching them that there are two kinds of people in this world. The two kinds of people are good and bad. It doesn't matter what religion, race or creed.

I visit now about three times per year (for a few days to a week on each trip) and will be moving in when my wife retires in a few years. Our kids are grown and out of the house. I do expect they will visit.

I've had occassion to meet many folks from Delaware, including the fine people who post regularly to this forum. I've never had a problem, and don't see any signs of any potential problems. The people of Kent County seem to be like me ... it's a mixed group who would get along with everyone else.

I was born and raised in New York City and have lived in mixed neighborhoods for 56 years. I cannot imagine that I'll have any problems in Kent County. I'm with you about believing what I believe and never discussing it with others. It's just my business. Besides, I'd much rather talk about sports, restaurants, the beach, "Top Chef", the weather, the price of gas (outrageous, isn't it?), etc ...

Hope this helps.

Charley

Thanks Charley. I've lived my 47 years on Long Island. I'm nervous about the move but excited at the same time. Delaware seems like Suffolk County, Long Island, New York was when I was little. I want to give that to my children. It seems like there is so much hustle and bustle here that they don't have time to enjoy their childhood. I want things to be easier for them.

Well, the decrease in real estate taxes alone should make things easier for everyone in the family! I'm in Rockland and I'm paying almost $10,000 per year. When my time comes to leave, I won't miss the tax bill.

I can relate to that Charley. Mine are almost $8,000. I won't miss that or the traffic.
