Hello,

I will be travelling 3x a week from Middletown DE to Columbia, md. Can anyone suggest which ezpass to get for getting the commuter benefit on tolls? I currently have NJ ezpass and I dont think there are any discounts for that one.

Thanks
Pradeep

With NJ EZ pass, they charge you $1 every month for administration fee. After I moved to DE, I switched to a DE EZ Pass and you pay an upfront fee of $12 and that's it, no more ongoing admin fee.

We just moved from MD to DE and during the time since we left, I understand they made some changes. I do believe MD no longer charges you to get their EZ Pass transponder. It might be worth comparing to the DE EZ Pass to see which would provide the better rates/monthly charges: https://www.ezpassmd.com/en/home/index.shtml

There's no fee for the E-Z Pass transponder. You open you account with a minimum of $25 to get you started. Automatic refills of $25 occur when your account gets down to $10. I travel on Rt. 1 almost every day, North to South, the full length of the toll road. There are two (2) toll plazas the length of the toll road....each $1.00. It costs me a total of $4.00 to travel up, then back, on a weekday. Midnight Friday (weekends) the tolls go up a dollar.

From the web site:
How E-ZPass Works
Establish a prepaid E-ZPass account using your credit card, personal check or money order or cash. The convenient credit card payment option automatically replenishes your prepaid account whenever your balance reaches $10 USD. Check, cash and money order E-ZPass accounts have a higher threshold and are replenished by mailing payment to the E-ZPass Customer Service Center.

rdlr,

This might be a new requirement after you applied for yours?

Q: Why is DelDOT charging the $15 Transponder Fee? A: As the E-ZPass program matures and continues to grow in popularity, the toll agencies are realizing the staggering cost of transponders and their replacement. There are many methods being used to recoup the investment in transponders. DelDOT has elected to charge this one-time fee while others charge monthly or annual fees.

Maybe. I just took that last section off their web site. Thank you.
