Nicola's is leaving Rehoboth Beach, a place they have called home for 50 years and opening in Lewes. I can't help but wonder if this is going to be the first shoe to drop.

The family owns a new hotel in Lewes right behind the Ocean Plaza, so that could be helpful to the hotel and the space in Ocean Plaza has been vacant for a while. I know there was a fabric shop in there and Painting with a Twist but they have been gone for quite awhile so maybe they got a really fabulous deal, as they said.

While it's a shame for Rehoboth Beach to lose Nicola's Pizza, I'm glad to see that they're not going out of business, but going to another location. Still, what a loss for downtown Rehoboth!!

Yes, I'm glad they're not going out of business. Any commercial entity leaving Rehoboth is a loss. While I remember liking Nicola's o.k., I probably have been there, maybe 3 times, since 1950.....mostly because Grotto was our high school hang-out at the beach (a lot of us worked there in the 50's). More recently, it's hard for me to maneuver the car down Nicola's narrow street, with people, bikes, and dogs usually in the way. I never could find a close parking space. No problem for the young, though!

I was surprised to hear this! I used to waitress there a very long time ago. Joan (RIP) still remembered me every time we dined in there (quite often during the off season) even after all those years. She was the sweetest, funniest, and best boss I ever had.
I really miss her.

Mixed thoughts on them moving--one on hand, it will be easier to get there instead of riding around looking for a parking spot (this happens even during the off season now). However, I'll miss walking the boardwalk and seeing the town decorated for the fall/winter holidays given Nicola's was the only reason we'd drive in town.

I'm kinda glad they're moving. Now I can go there again. For the same reason rdlr and beachliz mentioned: Parking.

Yeah, I may start patronizing them when they move to an area with easier access.

Sounds like this is going to be a great move for them - and for a lot of customers. While I love the Nic-O-Boli's, their fries are the best I've ever had.
