If you have Comcast and you own your own Modem/wifi router and you have very recently had problems with your wifi connection - check to see if Comcast no longer supports your particular router.

I thought my almost 5 year old modem/wifi router was dying and needed replacement. It was Comcast who very recently has decided to no longer support my current modem/wifi router and not the modem/wifi router itself failing.

So, I checked Comcast for current compatible units I could buy on line and bought a new unit from Walmart. Just because your unit was compatible in the past does not mean it is on their list of compatible units today. And of course owning your own unit is much cheaper than renting a unit from Comcast. ( They just increased their rental to $15 a month!)

Just a heads up if you have recently had problems with Comcast and your wifi connection.

We toyed with the idea of going this route two years ago and decided against it. It will definitely save money for many but for others it may not. In our case, we are two people each with iPads, Macs, phones, watches, and the house itself has wireless speakers, ring cameras, smart switches, streaming tv's etc. Comcast increases the speeds over time and the current correct modem available retail wise will remain static to the upper limits of your modem. With more and more things that are wireless there is increased demand for wifi and that also needs to be considered.
