Last night, four of us had an early dinner at Prince on Delaware in Olde New Castle. The reason that I am posting is that we had an excellent dinner in a restaurant that appears to be virtually unknown. We were the only customers; and while we ate early (5:15 p.m.) because of a 7 p.m. engagement, when we left at 6:30 there were still no customers.

Three of us had the crab cakes with risotto and french green beans. These were some of the best crab cakes that I have ever had. No filler. Caesar salad was great. Hot wings, while different, were excellent as was the bleu cheese dressing.

Unfortunately, they did not have everything on the limited menu, and there were no desserts because they had not been delivered.

Prince, the owner and chef, prepares everything fresh (except desserts).

We talked about having our department Christmas party here, but were concerned about lack of dessert and the fact that there were no vegetarian meals available. Even the one soup had chorizo, which seems to be popular in this restaurant.

I also asked for an iced tea to go, and they have no take-out containers.

As a small business in this economy, I am sure that they are limiting what they purchase and this might be why there are no customers.

If you are in the area and looking for some good food, stop in and see what they have. It is a lovely restaurant. When I called for reservations, I knew they sounded too happy to make a reservation for four, but even with the lack of entrees and desserts, I would definitely eat there again (but I would ask about dessert when I called).

Thanks SMXGirl... you did a great job in posting the good AND bad parts of your experience! With the holidays coming, and folks traveling to the busier shopping areas in northern DE, I'm sure the review will be appreciated by more than me!

While this posting is actually very old I must say that the restaurant was fairly new while you ate there. I am the niece of the head chef Prince Johnson, and must say on his defense that the rationale for the minute menu is that he rather be able to analyze everything that you receive on your plate in order to have more intimate union with each consumer. My uncle’s dream has always been to exceed restaurant mediocrity. His objective is to extend himself to each customer and show them that he is not just attempting to make a profit but to help them experience what great food truly is. While this post is not to just say all this because he is my uncle or to show aggression, SMXGirl, it is to notify anyone who hasn’t visited or even those who have, that you were or will be quite pleased with your experience. Lack of desert does not make a restaurant dissatisfactory, especially when introduced to the amazing mixtures of flavors exerted by my uncle. My greatest suggestion is to all, please make reservations for the restaurant. Due to current and previous publicity they are highly demanded now and would like to accommodate all interested.

Some one at my job told me about this establishment today. They said the fish and grits was off the chain. I live in New Castle and never knew it existed. This may be a nice place for a date night with my husband. Good to know. Heard it was an intimate place. Must check it out.
