I do wish we had our own tv station up here so I didn't have to listen to the news and weather out of Philly.

Is it maybe different in lower Delaware because more newcomers tend to move there, and are probably undergoing a more radical change of lifestyle relative to more urbanised places that they moved from?
I've seen this "change things" pattern take place over a number of years, probably because (as said) we have many more newcomers here below the canal, than upstate. I agree, it's a radical change in lifestyle for newcomers. Most of the newcomers are of retirement age, and tend to buy in age restricted communities where they are comfortable with other retired newcomers from various states. - (age restricted communities in Kent/Sussex attract out-of-staters) - Some newcomers have mentioned they miss specific stores and familiar amenities in their home state. And, sometimes, that's when the "let's change things" sets in.

My new favorite thing is the Paradise Grill here on Long Neck. Went there tonight and even in the rain there was a crowd jammed under the overhead coverings enjoying to music, The have just changed to a machine making margaritas and I have had better. What's interesting here is the owner, front end manager and head bartender all came around asking after I responded to the server's question about how it was.

Speaking of Long Neck, DE......one of our new favorite things is Baywood Greens, a golf community off of Long Neck Rd. We're been attending some of their concerts, and have really enjoyed them. It's a beautiful setting (see link). We'll be going down Sunday night for the Memorial Day Concert and Elvis Tribute. Other entertainment has been very good, such as Frank Sinatra music, Sol Knopf, and others. Their botanical gardens are absolutely gorgeous and they have tours!

I did not find Delaware boring at all. I did not have enough time during my visits to do all that I wanted to do. I went to Cape Henlopen SP and also climbed one of the Coast Guard lookout towers, visited the museums in Dover (Biggs, Museum of Small-Town Life, Agricultural Life,), spent a day at Hagley up near Wilmington, went to Ocean City (ok, not Delaware, but just over the line), went to Bethany Beach - loved that totem pole and the plantings on the street leading to the beach, visited all 3 racetrack/casinos and also accomplished what I went down to do - check out 55+ communities. I love the scenery, moderate climate, slightly slower pace than here in CT, and, of course, the friendly people. I think Delaware is heaven on earth.

And I still think rdlr should write a travel tips/restaurant tips column for a local publication. Not only is her knowledge vast, but she has such a great way of telling a story.

I'm a newcomer, and I'll admit that when we first got here, I wished there were more -- and yes, grocery stores were one of the things. But I've come to appreciate Delaware's coziness. I like running into friends pretty much everywhere we go. It fosters a real sense of community, even here north of the canal.

There are open spaces. WE just don't advertise them. I was going to say more but we will keep our secrets.
