(Nov. 10) -- Images of corpses, rotting teeth and diseased lungs will take up half the space on a pack of cigarettes, under federal proposals unveiled today.

The graphic new labels are designed to scare smokers into quitting by showing what can happen to them.

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas anyone ever came up with.

If you'd like to see the images they're suggesting, go here:

33 New Terrifying Tobacco Warning Labels*Pictures - CBS News

Is this really all our employees at the FDA have to do?

ps: The "corpses" they've chosen sure have good color for dead people.

it's dumb things like this that make me want to go out and buy myself a pack and light up.

What happened? Did someone not notice that people who smoke, are like people who drink, they LIKE it!

I can't be the only person who remembers "Tracheotomy Man" from Jr. High, am I????

I went to school in the 70's and early 80's and we were shown over and over that "smoking is bad" - but still students lit up. So, showing a corpse on a pack of Marlboro Lights is going to suddenly make someone go: "Oh, Golly Gee Goobers, smoking is bad, I will stop now"??

You can't tell me students today aren't told that cigarettes, booze, and drugs are bad for them!

But yet the fed and state happily take the taxes - no blood stains on their hands!!

Maybe the schools should do this: When I was 8 years old - my best friend snuck a couple of his Dad's Winstons and we each lit one up and each took a long drag......after both of us convulsed for 10 minutes, we wondered why anyone would do something that gross. Guess what - it worked!!

Can you even imagine all the state & fed programs that would stop once tobacco is no longer for sale? Yep then the govie will come up with a new tax to try to replace it. They put sin taxes on smokes in my state but not alcohol go figure.

It is awful to smoke I know did it for over 30 years.

while in the surface this seems like it might be a good idea it really is dumb.

The Gov't forgets that the public is hardened to these photos by all the CSI & Cop TV show that always show gross dissection of the human body as part of the show.

Excellent point! I hadn't thought of that - we are a pretty desensitized society.

+1

Are they going to show all the damage done to the body after eating genetically mutated food? What about hormone injected meat?

How idiotic!
