I recently started going to the dentist. I am 27 years old. My teeth are some what messed up with cavities. Well I found a new dentist becuz the last one wouldn't do any fill ins unless i have my root canal. so we sent me to a endontist. Well then I found another one and she also sent to a endondonist. Yesterday I had my root canal. My insurance covered about 2,000 and my co-pay was 249.00 To me this is all some type of business. And my mom told me her friend recently had a root canal but it was by her own dentist. did I get scammed?

I don't think you got scammed. My dentist won't do root canals. I personaly would never have a regular dentist do a root canal.

Of course it's a business - do you think dentists are there to serve you for free? I bet your root canal included the cap as well. And endodontists are specialists in root canals. BTW, there are 3 types - molars, pre-molars, and front teeth with 3 different prices because there are different kinds of roots in those teeth. I don't see paying $250 as being excessive. However, you could always do a search and try to find someone cheaper. My ex went with the cheapest once - and wound up with a dry socket. It was an extremely painful lesson in getting what you pay for.

I find it incredible that you waited until you were 27. You're lucky you have any teeth left on which to do a root canal.

Toothbrush. Toothpaste. Dental floss. Use them every day.

Get the restoration done, start brushing and flossing, and it will be a long time before you need another filling.

My dentist has told me that he does not frequently do root canals unless the patient really begs, and then only on the front-ish teeth. He feels it is something better done by an endodontist.

Would you want a general surgeon removing a lung tumor? Just because a medical professional can do something, does not mean they are the most competant to do it.

ditto the above, get the work done and commit yourself to taking care of your teeth. I know it's expensive, but you have to take care of them, at least the ones you want to keep.
