finger pointing over a failed abutment (implant, molar, dentist, cost)

I think I'm getting the runaround. Or maybe I'm being over-sensitive.

I received a molar implant about 4 months ago from Dentist B who has since sold his practice to Dentist N. In the meantime, the abutment has loosened from the post. The solution apparently is to destroy the crown, replace the abutment, and install a new crown. Seems intuitive and straight-forward and the hardware company said they'll cover the abutment.

Both dentists are volunteering the other one to pick up the tab for the rest. On one hand it happened on Dentist B's watch and on the other Dentist N presumably took ownership of assets and liabilities when he bought the practice. I really don't think it should end up on my plate or am I being unreasonable.

Does anyone have thoughts as to who should take the hit?

I would tell them you don't really care who covers the expense, as long as it's not you, and they can fight about the bill amongst themselves.

And then, once the work is completed, I'd find a new dentist.

That was a non-trivial discussion with Dentist N who shifted from "no" to "I'll take to B" after 45 minutes.

Took the long way around Robin Hood's barn and in the end Dentist B is picking up the cost of the new crown, hardware company is donating the abutment, and Dentist N is providing the labor. The only thing that can possibly (LOL) go wrong is if the abutment is stuck in the post and can't be removed.

Crown comes out tomorrow morning.
