Have just had cyst and remaining teeth removed by oral surgeon a month ago. Am aged 93 but healed well, so have been cleared to have local dentist prepare lower plate. I already have an upper plate (porcelain) and am told must get both plates made (hard plastic) because existing porcelain plate will grind off the newer plastic plate. Price quoted is $1200 for one plate and double that for both. Dentist looked at my porcelain upper plate and knew I was concerned re cost; then said he thinks he can make a hard lower plate to match the upper porcelain plate in plastic that would work, but, if after examining my mouth, he might have to do a porcelain one that would cost more than one plastic one but not as much as two plastic plates.
