Cold sensitivity is not that unusual. Often, a desensitizing toothpaste will help that. However, hot sensitivity is a bad sign, particularly if the discomfort lingers...you know, like it starts the tooth really aching. That is a sign that the tooth may need a root canal.
Best to have a dentist take an x-ray of the tooth to see if there is an abscess or fractured tooth. Good luck to you!
