I use a nice "garlic rinse" to wash my mouth. When I don't have any of that handy, I use a lovely "anchovy rinse". I used to like the "limburger cheese rinse", but I think it was discontinued - can't find it anywhere!!!
Also, I've never ever heard the phrase "wash your mouth."
I've brushed my teeth, but I've never washed my mouth.
Am I alone in this?
New one to me also - Adi is from an Asian (Indian?) background so perhaps there's a cultural difference - is it common in some countries to rinse or eat mint or something after eating? I've never encountered it, myself. Or done it, or ever been bothered by it. I do usually floss after meals, especially if I've eaten something stringy and/or green.
Back in the day before dental floss my German-born grandfather would enthusiastically clean between his teeth after every meal, even in restaurants or other people's houses. He didn't care that most people thought that was not proper etiquette and actually sort of gross. (IMHO.)

Really . As a child dad always used to scream at me "Wash your filthy mouth" if I forgot to do so. That's how I got into the habit.
My father used to threaten to wash my filthy mouth, but it was usually a result of me saying words that would be censored here and punishment involving a bar of ivory soap.
Shifting topic: How do you keep your mouth and teeth clean
OK, I apologize for my mistake , and it appears that we have hit a difference of opinion here due to cultural differences.
As its too late for me to change the thread title and original post now, let me twist this around to include a note of positivism, and ask what you do to keep your mouth and teeth clean after eating.

That involved much nastier consequences for me, most of which I cant explain here.

Ah, that's what I said in my earlier post.
I don't feel as if my mouth and teeth (or anyone else's) are "dirty" or need to be cleaned after eating. Really, your mouth is a bacteria-rich environment at ALL times and eating doesn't change that.
I floss after some meals but that's it. I practice basic dental hygiene by regularly brushing my teeth, flossing and getting professional cleanings periodically. I also brush my tongue when I brush my teeth and I use mouthwash when it occurs to me.

Never had to go for professional cleaning till now (Unless you are implying a dentist visit). I brush every morning without fail, and rinse or refresh my mouth after every meal with water & mint. I used mouthwash before, but water + mint seems to work out better for me.
I might pop a mint or some gum in my mouth after eating but never wash my mouth out. I brush in the morning and at night before bed. I was never told to do this as a child. Maybe it's a cultural thing?? I do understand that smelling someone's bad breath is gross but not all people keep "mint" mouthwash or tooth paste with them. Just rinsing your mouth with water does nothing to hide the stink. I have encountered many customers with bad breath so bad I want to gag, but it's none of my business. If you want your mouth to smell like a dumpster that's your business.
