When I was a kid and went to the dentist, he gave me a shot of Novocain and after waiting for about five minutes, he starting drilling. I was told I would not feel a thing, but every once in a while I would feel some extreme pain. It was like the Novocain did not work.

Move ahead to 2015 and now the pain shot seems to work because I never feel any pain when the drill hits my tooth. What has changed?

Do you feel any pain when the drill hits your tooth?

Pain medication has come a long way since the late '50s/early 60s when you were a child.

Some dentists are better than others at finding the right spot to inject to numb the nerve.

While drilling for a crown prep I told the dentist I could feel it..even though he gave me a shot. ..and told me I was numb..I almost went through the roof! He gave me another one and it wore off before I got into my car. ..it was the first time that ever happened. When I went back for the crown I also got a numbing shot because even fitting and cleaning over that exposed tooth HURTS... I stayed numb from that 5 minute procedure. .....for Hours and Hours drooling lip numb etc....I don't get it. ..that's why I HATE the dentist..he's a nice guy but I have very sensitive nerves in my teeth...
