Hi guys,

I had my wisdom tooth extracted (90% of them) but there is this one last piece which bothers me.

Attached is Xray1 - the xray photo before wisdom tooth removal and Xray2 after wisdom tooth removal. It seems to me that the last piece of the wisdom tooth was "pushed" further in. I also felt my dentist keep pushing down on my jaw during extraction which I am not sure why. My concern is would it be OK to just leave the small piece there forever and would it somehow impact me because now it;s closer to the nerve? (i am not even sure if it's touching the nerve now) and I am afraid there might be repercussions in the future. I am still recovering from the removal and could not tell if I am ok with the small piece staying in there.
I just feel weird how can a surgery go wrong like this (purely based on what Im seeing).

Thanks for any advice.

What did the dentist tell you when you asked him about it?

If the root tip breaks off, they are sometimes left in place if the risk of removing it is high. In this case, the risk is elevated because the root is closed to the nerve that goes through the jaw which gives feeling to your bottom lip. Your dentist may have decided to leave the root tip instead of giving you a numb lip. There are certain criteria and situations where this is a very acceptable decision. It's sore anyway right now because it sounds like you just had it done recently. You should discuss this more with your dentist and see if a referral to an oral surgeon is necessary, or if he feels like this shouldn't cause a problem.

DISCLAIMER for the sharks out there: I am a dentist but I am not YOUR dentist and this post is for informational purposes only. See your own dentist.
