Hi

For the last week or so, when I brush my teeth and gums, I've noticed that the gums near one of my teeth is really sensitive and makes me avoid that area. Coincidentally it's near the tooth that I had a filling for 2 months ago. But this has just started. There's no bleeding or anything but I'm a bit worried. Does anyone know if it is serious or if it will go away? I've no idea why it started... I brush twice daily so it's not like I have bad hygiene.

Hey the problem seems to have disappeared!!! I can brush now without that feeling. I guess it was just a bit sore from me brushing it too hard? I used the same type of toothbrush I always use.. medium bristles.

The medium bristled toothbrush is a problem. It's possible that you are also brushing too hard. You are not alone. Most of the general public brushes too hard. This can cause the gums to recede away from the tooth, exposing the root and leading to sensitivity, decay, or possibly tooth loss. If your gums have receded, you may need a gum graft to cover the exposed area (some dentists may opt to place a filling instead). You should be brushing with a "soft" bristled toothbrush. A medium bristled toothbrush combined with gritty toothpaste is like sandpaper against the tooth and gums. Most of the electric toothbrushes these days also have pressure sensors built into them so that the toothbrush will shut off if you push too hard against the tooth.

That's interesting. I feel like not brushing hard enough doesn't make me clean properly.

Well, always consult a good dentist before using any product as it may contain various chemicals that may affect your teeth in the future. You can ask the dentist first after that take any procedure.
