Ever had a Dentist tell you that you needed unnecessary work on your teeth? (cost, broken)

I went to a new dentist when I moved to a new city and he told me I needed about $5000 worth of dental work done. Root Canals and Crowns. I told him I would think about it and get a second opinion. I went to a second dentist and she told me my teeth were in great shape and I did not need any of those things done the first dentist told me about. My second dentist told me my first dentist was committing fraud.
What should I do about the first dentist? Think of all the people who pay to have all this unnecessary work on their teeth and pay dearly for it.
Lots of franchise dentists pay the staff commission so you always need more expensive cleanings than insurance covers! Trust is leaving the profession.
did you get xrays of why the first dentist said you did need all the work if so get them and have a review from another dentist. When I moved to another state first dentist said teeth fine. I always went each 3 month for a cleaning in my other state. I did change to another dentist who said I did need crowns etc. Strange he was correct and since I had insurance they did look at the xrays and did agree I did need the work. I was glad i had the work done and he was really great.
Yes, it has happened to me. When it was necessary for me to find a new dentist, the first one I selected told me it was necessary to replace every crown. When I asked what the cost would be, he replied, "We already received approval from your insurance." That didn't answer my question, and when I asked again, he said, "Don't worry about it."
When I informed him it was necessary for me know what my out-of-pocket costs would be, he retorted with, "Apparently you need to find yourself another dentist since you doubt my word."
The next dentist refuted everything the first dentist claimed.
Have discovered that you can go to five different dentists and all five may come up with a different treatment plan.
I've written this in another thread. My dentist is crown happy. I get one done and in no time he tells me I need another. It is nuts. The last time he told me this I just knodded and said yeah sure and haven't gotten it done. The tooth never bothered me.
Yes. My husband and I went to a dentist about 20 years ago who told us both that we each needed 4 crowns. We both stupidly got two of them and they cost a fortune. We said "forget it" after that and changed dentists. He has not needed any more crowns and I got one last year because a tooth had broken.
Our current dentist has told both of us that we need night guards for grinding, but we have not gotten them.
A lot of dentists are up there with used car salesmen.
