And by "best," I mean the one that covers more of the cost of major procedures, such as root canals and crowns?

Insurance plans are regional and nobody here knows where you live. The plans that cover the most work will also be the most expensive. Dental insurance is rarely worth it unless someone else (such as an employer) is purchasing it for you. On average, dental insurance plans give $1200 per year of coverage at a cost of $100 per month. Do the math.
