I went to the dentist yesterday and it tuned out i need a lot of dental work done( 2 crowns, and a few deep fillings) I have no insurance and i am wondering what the best option is for me. Maybe a dental plan like Cigna? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
I'm in CA. I had smilesaver for a few yrs and it was good. I dropped it and was looking at Carrington but right now have nothing. Taking good care of my mouth on my own. THere are a lot of money saving plans to check out. When one needs a lot of work they come in handy.

I don't think you can find a plan to cover pre existing issues. Well, maybe in dental one can.
But if not, if you live anywhere near a dental school they may see you on a much reduced rate.
Most dental plans you get privately will have a waiting period for crowns and sometimes fillings - usually 6-12 months. Insurance companies aren't stupid - they know that some people try to sign up, get the work done, then drop the plan the next day.
My DHMO didn't have a waiting period, but it's a cheapo HMO ($15.99/month) so go figure. PPOs will make you wait for non-regular procedures because you're likely to just use it for a bit then drop it when you've had your work completed and paid for. If your work is that extensive and dire, I guess go with the no-wait plan, but be prepared for the price hikes on certain things (fillings and simple extractions and regular cleanings being the cheapest and root canals and dentures and crowns being more after they add on to the base price). If you can wait it out, try the 6-month waiting PPOs that discount you more after a while (a "loyalty" plan).
Dental plans in this country are a whole mess. :/ If you got a good job with a great plan, do whatever it takes to keep both and use it as much as you can.
