My experience with dentists has been, for the most part, very good. I go for cleanings twice a year, checkups once a year, brush and floss twice a day faithfully. I've learned my lesson the hard way the consequences of assuming my teeth are ok with no visits to the dentist, ie, neglecting my teeth. It's been several years since my dentist told me I needed any work done.
The last time I went to a dentist he told me I have a lot of plaque on my teeth so I need to brush and floss more. I think he was saying that just to sell more toothbrushes. What a jerk. I'd rather give my business to someone who is trustworthy and tells me everything is OK all the time. I've posted 1-star Google and Yelp reviews about how this dentist humiliated me with those remarks and I will continue to tell everyone on the internet to avoid this place at all costs. Scammers!
I haven't been to see a dentist for around 42/43 years. The last time I went, I was told that I needed four fillings - within six months all the fillings had fallen out. I thought, "What a waste of money," and never made another appointment. I still have all my own teeth, have never once had a problem with them since.
Dentists will invariably find something wrong with your teeth, then they can make money out of you.
The problem continues to this day in the US. I constantly had dental work done, fillings, crowns, until I decided not to have any work done 12 years ago. I had a dentist keep telling me I had to have fillings, but as I only allowed xrays every few years, the old cavities mysteriously disappeared. New ones arose. Finally, I decided after this dentist told me I absolutely had to have a new crown immediately, as there was decay under the crown, to get a second opinion. I go to a new dentist, they do xrays, and tell me this crown is just fine. I have no pain. It makes me wonder how much of my dental work over a lifetime was performed just to make money for a dentist.

I assume you are being sarcastic. What would you prefer a dentist say in order to make an impression....that your breath could knock a vulture off a manure truck?

Detecting decay under crowns is not easy, crowns are opaque so the only way a dentist can see decay is if there is a shadow on the x-ray, it could be that it didn't show up on the x-rays the second dentist took, or he missed it. I've had decay under crowns, some crowns I've had to have replace a few of the crowns but with one of them my dentist was able to cut away a small portion of the crown at the margin repair the decay and patch the crown - $200 vs $900 for a new crown.
I go to the Doctor once a year because I'm not always capable of knowing if I have some condition that I'm not aware of, I go to the dentist for the same reason because I lack the equipment and knowledge to evaluate the condition of my teeth and gums.

yes, he's being sarcastic, he's a dentist in real life
The dentist I'd been going to for over 15 years sadly passed away and ended up in a practice run by a husband/wife team. Each time I went in I saw one or the other and each one had a different opinion of what needed to be done.
Shopped around and the next dentist was even worst. . .he stated on the first visit that every crown needed to be replaced plus numerous cavities. Ignored him and tried another practice - all was going very well, no issue with crowns and no cavities but that dentist moved out of state and next one gave me a completely different list of expensive procedures. Ridiculous!
Now, thankfully and finally, have an ethical dentist who isn't viewing an expensive car brochure while claiming patients need thousands of dollars worth of work performed.
After a lifetime of car/motorcycle accidents fights and general poor dental care i had my last tooth extracted around 20 years ago,i have since had beautiful plastic dentures , Teeth? Highly overrated

LOL, and the best part is you can admire your beautiful dentures as they sit there and smile at you at night from their container on your nightstand.
