I use listerine a while back and they come in different flavors.

There is

1. Listerine Protection (Green)

2. Listerine Zero (Light Blue)

3. Listerine Cool Mint (Dark Blue)

4. Listerine Total Care (Purple)

5. Listerine Whitening (White)

6. Listerine Ultraclean

Is there any difference in getting either of these? Back then i use to get whatever was available.

Here where im located there, there seems to be only the first 3 available at the local walmart here.

Does it matter which one you use? Does one serve a much difference purpose than another?

Yes, they are variations on the original basic antiseptic mouthwash. They started adding ingredients to whiten tooth enamel, strengthen enamel, make it taste better, etc.

To figure out which does which, read the labels!

Do some of these contain alcohol or only some do not have alcohol? Read that issue with listerine is they contain alcohol.

OP, its pretty simple. Either go to a store and just read the label. Or, even easier, shop for each type online and just read the ingredients list. It took me about 000.02 seconds to find a couple of the varieties of Listerine online. Alcohol is usually listed as one of the inactive ingredients.

My hygienist told me to get Cepacol Antibacterial Mouthwash she said it's the best over the counter you can get.

She also said salt water rinse works also to some degree.

The gum doctor now has me on chlorhexidine mouth rinse it's the best at killing germs, but you need a prescription for it.

I have NOT used Listerine in many years. I found the Spry line of dental products and use them when I do. For the last couple yrs I've gone to Coconut Oil toothpaste and hardly use a mouth rinse. Often before bed, a swish of H202, spit and to bed.
