I'm getting a crown tomorrow to cap a molar root canal.
Is porcelain the best quality
And for health?
Others?
TIA.

Thanks for the responses.
Yes, I've googled and the info is vague. I'll check out your link.
As for me.
They did the grinding down of the molar on Monday and made the impression. I'll be about 2-3 days before I go back.

I have all three types of crowns. In the back, where it doesn't show, is a gold crown. It's been fine.
Most of my other crowns are porcelain over metal. I think the metal is zirconium. These crowns have lasted a long time, no issues.
I have a newer crown, made in the dentist's office, that's all porcelain It's a chewing molar. I don't like the feel of it...it feels...plastic-y.
If I need another crown on a tooth that grinds I'd opt for porcelain over metal. All porcelain on non-grinding tooth would be fine, I suppose.

I have porcelain crowns but I think there is plastic mixed in. They're okay because they look good but I don't like the plastic for possible heath reasons.
In the back where it doesn't show I have gold. Gold is expensive but it's the best by far. Non toxic and it will last forever. With the "porcelain" plastic crowns, I bit into a hot pizza and then took a drink of cold water and THREE crowns sort of exploded so that I just had jagged bits of tooth. Those are the ones in the back that I replaced with gold so it can never happen again.

Monothilic zirconia is the most popular molar crown these days. It is CAD/CAM from a solid piece of zirconia. Very strong and nice esthetics too.

I just had one of these put in to replace an old composite crown. There is no plastic in these zirconia crowns, after machining they are fired at 1700F to harden them. I really like the way it fits close to the gum line and traps far less food than the old crown.
