One time I had a small filling fall out, didn't get it taken care of right away, tooth started smelling and tasting horrible. A tiny amount of food had gotten stuck and rotted, it wasn't the tooth at all. Gotta get these things taken care of right away.

One of the signs I had when the tooth under a crown was decaying (usually very hard to find on an X-ray) was a bad smell when I flossed in the area. Dentist said it was anaerobic bacteria. Nasty.
