OP: I have a long story with a molar that lost some filling and then broke some and when I had pain I took a course of antiobiotics and the pain was gone. I went round and round with dentist and he sent me to specialist and if I had listened to them I would have probably spent I don't know how many thousands losing the molar, which is next to bridge, and what it could have done to bridge who knows....but bottom line it's been over 10 yrs since this episode and I was early 70's and I'm still going strong and when I get a tinge of pain I use myrrh drop(s) there and it's fine. I was not about to go thru massive work and expense if I could save what I had. Dentists are business people and they are in business to make money. I don't know your age but think about it long and hard before entering into major work.
While I agree with you about that, I still do think there is something more going on here. I'm seeking an endodontist right now near me so hopefully, I will get some answers.
Let us know how that goes. I love my endodontist! LoL. I hope you find a good one, too.
Hopefully you will be done with all your dental pain soon.
I am finding out more and more dentists are pushing implants these days. They are expensive and most insurance does not cover them. My mom went to 3 dentists over the last 6 months and finally found one she liked that did not push her into getting implants. She had to have 2 front teeth taken out because they were loose and had a cavity. She ended up getting a permanent plate instead and her smile looks amazing. Bad teeth and gums run in her family but thankfully I don't have that issue. She always takes care of her teeth and goes to the dentist but she also had severe dry mouth which is contributing to her teeth being bad. She has Sjogren's Syndrome. She did have one implant done by a dentist 3 years ago and had a terrible reaction to it which her current dentist said is not uncommon.
Having a dental implant and remving the teeth is a long procedure and costly one too. Whereas bitegurds are less expensive and better than losing your natural teeth unnecessarily.
I went to the dentist recently because I've been having pain in my premolar root canal with a crown. I Bit on something hard one day and it started hurting only that one night and by morning the pain was gone but the gums were swollen. Dentist says because my teeth are slanted a bit in the back positioned like this: / /| with | being the premolar root canal and // being two back teeth. Dentist says it could be because I'm putting a lot of pressure on it when eating and recommends I get the two back teeth // taken out and to put implants in to straighten them out. To say I was horrified was an understatement! I don't know what to think. Is this a good idea? I'm quite done with having so many headaches over this tooth. Literally ruining my life. One dentist says to extract the root canal if it's so uncomfortable because if antibiotics didn't work and mouth rinse didn't help then its probably fractured. She also said its a little loose too. But now this dentist is recommending something completely different! I dont know anymore. But It could be fractured but nothing shows on X-RAY and I don't want to take out two teeth for NOTHING if it ends up being fractured. He also recommends Nightguards but those are $450!!! again don't want to waste my money and time if its just the root canal that's bad... What do you guys think?
Everyone has to do what is best for them and I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. For me, I have a large cavity in a tooth that has been crowned so dentist, who btw is very conservative has suggested I have the tooth pulled. I am following his advise. It is far enough back that is will not show so will not even get anything to replace it. I don't want the cost and I am 83 with all my teeth other than 1 wisdom tooth.

In 83 you are going great with all the teeth. Sometimes invasive and stly procedures are necessary while other times costs can be reduced. Dental implant needs surgery and if there is no possible alternative then dental implant is the only way.
At least one of the dentists should be able to show you the fracture on whatever the issue is on the xray. I would only agree to the extraction if they do. The nightguard seems like a no-brainer.
I'm going to see one really soon. Don't want to lose 2 perfectly good teeth and pay an arm and leg for something I don't need.
no your right this sounds to me about money not your care..
