Need to have full gum scaling and root planing at the periodontist as soon as they open up.

Haven't needed to do this since 20 years ago. So, I forgot what it's like.

Is it painful?
Did you need antibiotics after?
Did you do the whole mouth in one visit?

Its been at least 20 years since I had it done. I suspect different dentists might do it differently. At the time I had it done, I believe I only needed 2 appointments to complete the job. I think they did one side top and bottom in each visit.

Does it hurt? Yes, it can. You can ask for more numbing agent if it does. I don't believe I ever took anything stronger than Advil to cut the pain.

I have idea what this really is and why people NEED this work done. Is it gum disease, and I would think since MOST Americans go for cleanings 2 times annually why the necessity. What causes this. I'm too lazy to look this up so asking.

I've obviously never had it done nor has it ever been mentioned, but "pockets" in gums were mentioned back in the 80's by a dentist and I never did anything....Then along comes Grape Seed Extract in my life in 1995 and my gums are in GOOD condition at my late age. And all the years of cleaning at dental office, I went once a year.....now for almost 10 yrs I have not needed to go at all thanks to finding Coconut Oil toothpaste...it's made a world of difference too in my dental health.

Thought I'd mention this here....Prevention is so important and MOST don't know this info.

I have had it done.

Not painful. I was given lidocaine.

They give me a small bottle with instructions to rinse once a day with it until gone.

It was two visits. One side of the mouth (upper and lower) then the other side about two weeks later.
