Today I had a root canal on tooth #4, upper right side of mouth. The earliest appointment I could get for doing the crown preparation is 6 weeks out. That's how busy my dentist is. They will install a temporary crown at that time. Then it's 5 more weeks out to get the permanent crown installed. I would have preferred 3 weeks and 3 weeks. The longer wait time gives more of a chance of the root canal temporary filling failing.
Anyone else have long waits between root canal and crown prep?
Not that I recommend it but I've had the temporary filling from a root canal for 15 years. The dentist is all over me about getting the crown, I just haven't yet.

I am waiting 5 weeks, ideally, 4 weeks maximum, but apparently we both face the same problems, according to our dentist:
1. Many patients neglected their dental health during the pandemic and now that restrictions are lifted are trying to catch up.
2. Dental assistants and hygienists are in short supply, with some retired, laid off or quitting during the pandemic.
Our dentist is doing some of his own cleaning work, and breaking in one new assistant, and still trying to hire more help. It is hard to keep eating on one side to avoid damaging a temporary filling or crown.
