Because I had expensive dental work pending I looked into insurance including what is available with Medicare and from what I saw insurance coverage would be very limited for root canals and no help for oral surgery.

My dentist gave me several oral surgeons names and I started calling. First one I asked if surgeon was vaxxed and answer was no. Second one was vaxxed and consult was $140. I went there and the future bill was very, very high so I consulted with a third oral surg and again paid $140 and his fees were 60% of first doctor and in addition he had very high praise from patients for his work. Hired him and had first work done 2 days ago, happy with him and associates but holy cow how do people on limited income afford these costs? Paid $2800 and much more expense to come next year.

Neither surgeon would give an estimate without seeing me in person and taking/reviewing Xrays. The $140 consult is not deducted from the dental work cost.

Dental schools may have lower costs.

I doubt they can give an accurate estimate without knowing exactly what needs to be done and assessing the difficulty by examining you.

Yes the estimate or the final charges are always determined by dentists after examination and X Rays so that they see what has to be done and what will be the treatment course.
