Hello all,

I'm considering a move to the Denver area to attend the Pima Medical Institute and would sure appreciate any advice related to such a move. Cost of living compared to other areas, best areas for housing (renting), weather/climate, crime etc.......

Also anyone who is or has attended the PMI please chime in on your experiences there as well.

THANKS!!

Depends on what you are into. Are you older with family? My favorite area I've lived in for 5 years is the uptown area. Bus can take you downtown, or you can walk. THere are plenty of good bars on Colfax that are within walking distance. Close to coors feild. same bus that takes you downtown can take you to the Pepsi Center. City park is close by,a nd one of the favorite events is the free City Park Jazz every sunday evening.

Compared to other cities, its not overly crowded yet you have access to the bars and restaurants in LoDo, and the rent is far cheaper. I'm very cheap right now, pay $535 for a 500 sq foot 1 BR (nothing fancy by any means) but great for the location. If you want higher end, with pools and other amenities, Uptown Square, probably run you $1000+ for a 1 BR.

Weather here is amazing. It's sunny most days, and very dry. May get into 90's in summer, but the lack of humidity makes it comfortable. Go in the shade and you are fine. Winters are very mild, most days its in the mid to upper 40's, with every once in a while even higher. Cold fronts come in from time to time and it can get cold fo0r a few days normally. Doesn't snow as much as people think, but when it does it tends to be a doozy. Crime is very low if you ask me, I feel totally safe in this city. Colfax can get a bit sketchy, so just avoid being on it except when you go to bars that are on it. But the sketchy element stays there.

This city is amazing, I'd can't imagine it getting any better, at least for my tastes and preferences

Thanks Dr Gregg. I'm a bit older so not really into the bar scene. Would prefer a rental house or townhome a bit outside of the city instead of an apartment in the city.
