Hi Everyone,

I am a first time home buyer looking for an affordable home in the Denver Metro area in a safe neighborhood. My Realtor showed me a small home in the Summer Valley subdivision in Aurora near Buckley and Quincy. Is this area safe? I drove by at a few times during the day and it seems a little rough but I am used to the tech center area so I don't want to be bias. Does anyone have any opinions on this area?

Summer Valley Ranch has some of the smallest and cheapest homes in SE Aurora. It's about on par with Pheasant Run, but at least the latter has bigger lot sizes. At that price point I'd rather buy a townhome (many in the area to chose from), a property with land somewhere out east, or continue renting.

I don't think that's a "bad" area for the first time home buyer--and it is in the Cherry Creek School district, if that's a concern for you (or if it will be in the future). I just checked and there is one good-sized home in there under $200k that is on a 14,000 sf lot. There's a bit of diversity in homes in there, so you might want to check it out a little more before ruling it out.
