My husband is possibly taking a job at DIA, which means we would be moving from California to Colorado. We are trying to find an area that would be nice to live in and a practical commute for him. We are looking for a nice (somewhat new)suburb area, that has good schools and is kid friendly. We would like a smaller town feel, but still close to shopping, dining etc. One limitation that we have, is we have a Staffordshire bull terrier. This breed of dog is banned in some Colorado cities such as; aurora, city and county of denver, commerce city, castle rock and ft lupton.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Funkyartteacher,
If your spouse gets that job at DIA, I would suggest checking out cities to the north or north east of DIA. Westminster has the Adams County 5 star school district off of 120th blvd. The area is very suburban, good place to raise kids, you can own your pit bull, have easy access to a main hwy, shopping, restaurants, the mountains, the plains and just minutes from Denver. This area has a wide variety of big houses, starter houses, brand new town homes, condos and nice apartments for a decent price range. It also has lots of hiking trails, parks and a few lakes.
Best wishes to you!

Price range? How long of a commute is tolerable?

Hi Bradburn,
we will be renting at first so we would like to rent a house, around 3 bedrooms for less than $1600 a month. I'm not really sure about the commute...right now my husband commutes 45 minutes to work, but that is also in California weather without snow! Any suggestions?

The above north and northeast is almost on track, but since those areas are just farms and you are looking for new development I would change that direction a bit and look at the new developments west and northwest of the airport in Commerce City.
