This describes my situation so I am looking for some opinions.

Would you feel financially comfortable moving to Denver if you had a similar circumstance?

47 years old, single, healthy.

Have lived in Denver before (left in 2006).

Love the city and Colorado in general.

Still have some friends and contacts there.

Can take my job with me although it will only last for about 6 more months.

Have no debt, including no car payment and could comfortably live with no income for 9 months without dipping into retirement. Very thrifty, no vices.

Have a degree and strong background in sales.

Have my own side business that could be set up the day I got there and could generate income (1-2k a month) within 6 months.

Thank you.

Sure, so long as you keep on doing what you've (apparently) been doing, living within your means. You're about a thousand steps ahead of the Vast majority IMHO.

Sounds reasonable to me. But... Why did you move away if you had been living there? Does that reason factor into any of the decision making?

No debt, money to live on and strong sales background? I think you'll do fine in Denver as long as you put your nose to the grindstone when you get here. (And did you imply that you have no delusions about what Denver is and isn't? I'm sure you did!) Way ahead of most people that come here already.

What is the main purpose for moving?

To live somewhere that I enjoy (Denver) as opposed to somewhere that I don't (Northern Virginia/DC).

I don't blame you at all. Denver is one of the best cities in the nation as far as urban amenities paired with climate and outdoor amenities. I see a bright future for the city which is the primary reason I want to move and start a business there. One of the main problems with Denver is that there aren't really that many great jobs for the amount of people that want to live there, especially during a recession. Denver is an energy and tech city though and should rebound nicely this year and next...at least I hope so!

If I was in your situation that would be a no brainer.
