750 all utilities included, splitting it with a friend so its cheaper than I rent for now (500 now)....getting a job would be nice though before I got there, relieve a lot of anxiety about the move and living, etc.

ok, that makes things a lot easier. You are getting a really good deal on the price anyhow. I think you'll be ok. There are people paying $1500 and upwards for an apt.

I saw this, and thought it was horrible:

Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas
Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area 9.9

Hi Denver Law Gal! I'm in the same boat as our poster here. I'm going to move to Denver after I graduate with my LLM in Tax from Georgetown. I was just wondering whether you could give me a run-down as to the Denver legal market and how it is fairing in this economy... Any advice would be great! Thank you!

Sorry Lani, it's not so great here. With that said, the hiring freezes have lifted somewhat, and someone in tax would do better than some of the other fields. When you get here, join every group you can, the Colorado Bar and Denver Bar and any subgroup you fit into, i.e. tax, wealth transfer, etc. Good luck!

It's going to be impossible to get a job before you move, with limited experience and mostly applying to entry level stuff. But that's not to say you can't move out here. You just have to save, spend frugaly with no job, and job hunt your ass off.

you just have to save some cash that will get you buy for a few months, and when you get here, your job - is to find a job. If you spend ~4 hours a day looking for jobs (which is about a half day of normal jobs), I bet you would land a job that can support your rent range within 2 months. I really do.

Worst case scenario, your working one or two retail jobs that can net you 40 hours/week.

It is obviously an important decision, and one that requires planning and perseverence. But the economy is bad everywhere. There are jobs out there, someone is getting them. That's why I think temp agencies are a good place to start because with a degree such as ours, we have quite a few options, and it's not like you are "pigeon hole" ing yourself into one particular field. You just need a job, any job.

Moving to a completely new city can be very challenging, but also very rewarding. Just try to weigh the pros and cons and save as much money as possible.

and positive energy creates positive energy! If you really believe that there are no jobs, and that it would be impossible to successfully move to a new city, then it will never happen.
