My fiance and I are looking to relocate to the Denver area? Are there any African Americans there? I know it may sound silly but I am serious. We are a young couple and like city life but want to live close to but not in it? Where is a good location? We dont mind living in all white area. What are rental prices like? Any info will help

Indeed so. The demographics are on the data side of this site, click on the upper right link that says city-data.com

Other posters have said that racism here is considered way less than back east.

We have a very good search feature on this site, use it with keywords like: racism, african, etc.

Yes, African Americans live in Denver and have lived in Denver since before it was a state and exercised considerable political muscle as early as 1865. Frederick Douglass' sons, Lewis Douglass and Frederick Douglass, Jr. lived in Denver after the Civil War.

Black American West Museum Home Page is located in Denver.

Yes, there are African Americans here. Race isn't as blatant an issue.

Living just outside Central Denver would be good for what you are describing. $600-$900 would be what you could expect to pay to live nicely for 2 people.

Hello,
I am a visiting African American from Detroit, I am looking for place that plays old school music and lots of fun. Tried the internet, but the faces don't match the club.
Thanks,
Ann

I know this is an old thread, but just for the sake of those who search, I recall that Wellington Webb, the mayor, was black, so this would indicate a rather large black population.

FWIW, Michael Hancock, a black candidate currently in the race for mayor of Denver, just won a spot in the runoff to be held in June.

Some cities don't need to have large black populations in order to elect black mayors. Some cities can see past race.

Another story, for those interested: James Everett Chase - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

^He was elected mayor (in a landslide) in a city that today still only has a 3.1% black population.
