Kudos to you for doing the extra research, good info. The "not pleased" comment was regarding the expected increase in trauma cases for the ER at DH.

Yes, that is a problem. Some would consider it an advantage in getting more expensive billing--that is a terrible thing to say but it is reality. I assume these inner city hospitals and Swedish is Englewood have made plans for the increased business.

Thank You

There was an article in the Post about the issue of St. Anthony's moving impacting Denver Health about a month ago.

6-20 patients a month is nothing. That is less than 1 extra patient a day. Considering they had 73,483 Emergency Room Encounters in the most recent data 6-20 patients a month wouldn't even make a dent.

I think they meant 6-20 patients a day. That would make more sense. Many Post articles have errors in them it is hard to tell if they are accurate.

It used to be Level I trauma center a few years ago but since decided to drop down to level II. I may be recalling incorrectly but maybe Aurora South was also a Level I at some point but now is level II as is Littleton. You would still get good care there in an emergency? It must be pretty expensive to be a Level I trauma center.

I agree. Or the closest one your insurance takes if there's a question if it is a true emergency so you don't get denied!

When I think of hospitals I think of the emergency department because fortunately we've never had to be there for any other reason, but it is interesting to see the other specialities and now that there is at least one hospital good at it in the area.

It would probably be helpful for the OP to tell us just what s/he is looking for. One can find a list of hospitals through google. Where one goes to the hospital (other than ER) is usually directed by where one's doctor has privileges. I agree that for ER, it's generally best to go to the closest hospital that one's insurance allows.

It really depends on what's getting treated when determining what's the "best hospital".

For orthopedics, the ONLY hospital in Colorado that has earned a Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission (which is the organization that accredits and certifies hospitals/health care organizations nationwide) for any orthopedic specialty is Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. And they've done it in 4 areas (spinal fusion, hip replacement, knee replacement, and hip fracture). Granted I work there so I'm admittedly a little biased.

You can find some numbers/compare some stats (including patient survey results) at the HHS's hospital comparison website. The link below is to Denver hospitals.
