So I'm driving to Denver from Vegas tomorrow with my brother and I just checked the weather report. It says there is a chance of isolated thunder storms? Should I be worried? Neither of us are really experienced with driving in the rain especially on mountains.

There is usually a chance of isolated thunderstorms every day in the summer. Generally such storms are brief. I don't know what to tell you about the lack of experience in driving in the rain.

If you're at higher elevations, you might get winds and hail, even in summer. Keep an eye out for runoff down hillsides, too. Take it slow, keep your windshields clear as possible, watch for hydroplaning, and never be too proud to pull off into a safe spot (or under an overpass) to wait out the worst of it. The sun will be out again before you know it. Maybe a rainbow, too!

If you have front wheel drive and tires with some decent tread, you should be just fine (your wiper blades should be in good condition for any long distance driving). “isolated” means that you may drive through a storm or you may not. The mountain roads on I-70 are not that bad.

1. Turn on wipers (switch is usually on the steering column)
2. Slow down
3. If it's raining hard, turn on headlights (you're on your own finding the headlights)

That's because you're from PGH, where you had lack of experience driving in the sun (sorry, I couldn't resist...)

Too true. Learning to drive in the rain is part of getting one's license there! I simply can't imagine NOT knowing how to drive in the rain, or snow for that matter.
