I don't know if the "Menver" thing ever existed, but it certainly is nice for some guys to cling to as an excuse as to why they can't get women.

"No, it's not my social awkwardness, lack of job, bitter attitude, socks with sandals, porn star moustache, fill in the blank with whatever you case might be. IT'S THAT I LIVE IN MENVER. I don't need to work on myself in anyway; Denver just sucks for men.

Default Less blame, more facts

According to the census, there are 16 never married men 35-45 (my age range), for every 10 never married women in the larger Denver area. Nationally, the figures should be 13 NM men for every 10 NM women. For 20-35, the difference is larger still. There you have it: Menver.

Yes, and a good portion of them are gay.

Default And now, the gay/lesbian ratio...

Good point, although presumably they would be counterbalanced by the lesbian population. Unless Denver is a paradise for gay men and not for lesbians. Alas, outside my area of expertise... In any case, I suspect the gay population is not nearly big enough to make such a large difference across a large metro area, but that's just a guess.

Since my original thread on this (related) issue was closed, I will inquire here once more: for folks in the age 30+ dating pool, does this "Menver" experience still ring true, or is that more of an issue for the younger set...is it possibly balanced a little more with the more mature crowd?

TIA.....

From many prior threads over the years, the consensus is that there are more men in Denver because they come here for the outdoor experience, be it biking, hiking, skiing, climbing, etc.

In the 30+ age group, I'd expect there to still be a bit of an imbalance with men still outnumbering the females.

If one seeks a female-heavy population, IIRC, that would be DC, long known as "the happy hunting grounds" by the military guys who rotated through and found many "targets of opportunity." NYC is also another place known for it's population of females.

Thanks for sharing your insights, which seem at least in part in response to my post above. Maybe I felt a bit...er...unrequited (sticking with the theme) on the issue, and some of us newer posters might not have had the benefit of reading all the older threads on the subject. I, for one, will accept your conclusion as stated above, and will move on to other Denver area mysteries and wonders.

I'm sure a week's vacation in Denver will round out my knowledge on the issue anyway.

I've a hunch that you will really like the city once you experience it. There's a lot to do and a great vibe in LoDo.

I would say the experience in the city is that there are men all over the place 30+, really outnumbering the women. To fly from Denver to a place like DC (or Boston, or Chicago, etc.) can be a shock to the system!

Default Oh, just read the OP

I just read the OP...oops. The 2005-2009 data doen't address the idea that the recession has evened out the m/f ratio in Denver. I've only lived here a year, so I have no idea of how things were back when. I can say that coming from the East Coast, when I got out here I thought, holy cow, this really is Menver. I mean, back east I used to see all these tables at restaurants filled with just women. In Denver, I see lots of tables filled with just men. That's just anecdotal, of course. We'll have to wait for the census to know for sure.
