And Portland women as lush, wet, nurturing and loving. Are you talking about Portland Oregon the unwashed, unshaven, Lesbian capital of the US (alternatively the unshaven, unwashed hipster d-bag capital of the US)?
And as for women being scarce in Denver, the demographic breakdown here is 50.4% men, 49.6% women.
I got into grad school at University of Colorado and went elsewhere.
I've been a few times and didn't get that great of an impression of the city. It seemed like a big Reno, without casinos, with a lot of scruffy and/or recreation-obsessed men and women. East of downtown, near Quebec street, seemed really bleak and the summer thunderstorms made the streets/concrete smell. If you go up to Conifer or Evergreen or even Ken Caryl, it gets nicer, and the population became more attractive. The Denver area is less treed than most would expect and isn't that inspiring.
Thanks for that map on earlier posts. I think it's pretty accurate. The Inter-mountain West seems to attract men. The Pacific Northwest is the same and both Portland and Seattle have sizable lesbian populations. I didn't realize that LA was that disproportionate. I grew up there and always found it balanced. Maybe it's the entertainment wannabees, but I didn't know them. The Northeast is accurately portrayed and so is Atlanta. There are a lot of women in ATL, but if you're a transplant, it's much easier to hang around transplanted women than Southern women...there is a whole social decorum thing to decode. The big surprises were Dallas and Houston...truly expected them to be "oversupplied" with women.
I remember when I finished grad school and was moving West, I stayed in Denver 3 days. There was a tourist information center on the Boulder turnpike, so I got off to get maps and tourist information. The girl working there was probably a Boulder girl, had long hair and was ok looks-wise, but was icy and aloof. I wasn't at all interested...all I wanted was tourist info. After living in the PNW and becoming less wet behind the ears, she was probably a lesbian or only liked other like-minded dudes. Still, if she's such a d-b, she shouldn't have taken a public service job.
Don't care about skiing any more, not big into mountain oriented recreation, not into beer and alcohol, and it's too far from anything interesting. Denver: nah

But when you refine that to, say 18-45 and single, there are many more men. American Community Survey - it's your friend.
Unless you're one of those, 'I looked around and saw a bunch of women the other day,' or 'well, I found a GF,' types. Then numbers won't matter to you, anyway.
I second the 'women don't look at you,' thing. Very noticeable compared to other cities. Not sure how much of that is cultural, how much is menver, or maybe something else, but I've had the same, 'I'm human again' feeling when I've left town.

I didn't read the entire thread because I didn't understand the OP's question. What does the word "Menver" mean?

Why not? It's not like the topic is who will win the 2011 Super Bowl.

I have been in Denver for close to 20 years, in and out, back to California and Back here again. I have always lived on or around the Cheeseman area. Been in love twice here and had 2 relationships for a combined time of about 7 years.
Around 2000, this "Menver" thing started up about the skewed ratio of women to men here, that there were 3 guys for every girl, etc...
But as of late, I don't really see it. It actually seems to me that there is always a very even mix of men to women and actually sometimes at the clubs here downtown, it even seems like there are more women than men out...
Statistically speaking, for just the city of Denver there are maybe 7000 more men than women, but in places like Aurora, there are 5000 more women than men, etc, etc.
I am 40 years old now, single, have maybe 4 women that I could date right now if I chose too. I think that maybe the word got out and there have just been a serious influx of women here or...? Maybe it's the ridiculously HUGE gay scene here, who knows..
Funny, I am also on the meetup site and they just had a speed dating event and were giving away FREE passes to the men, because there were like 50 women already RSVP'd and only 7 guys had enrolled.
So in the end, women, with this whole "Menver" thing, if I were you, I would lay this to rest and be careful what you wish for... Just sayin
It would be cool to see what some of the rest of you think about this, your own experiences in dating, etc... Am I wrong?
I am single 49 years old female in RI in area which you said has more females than males . I joined two dating sites filled my profile honestly and put recent pictures. I got more than 1000 mails on one site ad had to hide my profile to be able to read and check all mails and profiles of men who wrote me. I met some of them in person and they were looking much older for their age and older than their pictures showed (Iwent on date with few guys who were 10 and even 15 years younger than me and looked much older than me. I was shocked. To not mention than men are much shorter than they say they are, so mostly of them I towered with my high heels even I am only 5'7 tall. I found men in USA look much older for their age and they are in real bad shape. So what kind of 4 women you are talking about ? I don't need 1000 men to date I just want one quality man who looks like something, has some manners and something in the head. Is that mean I have to go back to Europe to find man where are much more women than men?

Congratulations Mike. I was planning to come to visit Colorado but after reading all about it I will think about that. Have you got any art or cultural happenings there or you are well known for having gay men only ? ( big deal every city has them ). Is there anything other to see except gays and snow?

Indeed. Denver has a ton of museums, art, music, culture, pro sports, night life and all the outdoor sports one could want - year round. The climate is sunny with low humidity, and not much snow in Denver itself, that's up in the mountains, 25+ miles west, as the city itself sits in a bowl on the far western edge of the Great Plains. Most big cities have a lot of gay/lesbian people, they seem to gravitate to big cities to find their community of kindred spirits, but there are a ton of hetero men also in Denver.

I hate to say it, for all the people always asking these sorts of questions on citydata.com - the U.S. Census DOES have a webpage that you could probably figure out in 15-30 minutes and get some very specific data - such as, for example, # of women and men in the 25-34 age range, by marital status or race or whatever even. I understand its also good to ask for residents' impressions, but remember you'll get one person's perspective!
Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick. Over $68,000 in prizes has already been given out to active posters on our forum. Additional giveaways are planned.
