I'm from Monroe, LA....home of the hq of Centurylink. I been hearing a lot of furious and upsetting comments about Qwest being aquired by the "swamp people".

Im curious, how do yall really feel?

If past patterns hold true, probably another big bunch of jobs leaving Colorado for good. Qwest did a really good job of screwing over a lot of its Colorado and Wyoming employees (some of whom I know worked for them for 30+ years and lost their entire pension, as an example) during the Naccio mess, anyway, so there already is a lot bitterness about that.

It has nothing to do with me. It was a bunch of old, rich white men making deals behind closed doors that led to this. Whatever... find a new HQ to come to town.

I've never been a Qwest customer, so quite frankly, I feel indifferent about it. I'll probably never be a CenturyLink customer, either.

I think it was a case of one small telco eating a much larger, debt-ridden telco. Century Link probably bit off more than it can chew and the result will be a telco in LA that is worse off because 1. they are trying to make a living on last century's technology and the wide open spaces of the west make all that wiring very expensive, and 2. most of Century Link's customers are no longer near Monroe, LA, and it will cease to be the desireable local telco.

It has created the 3rd largest telco in the US, but it is the only one of the big three that doesn't have their own cell network, and wireless is the future.

It's business as usual, SSDD in the mergers & acquisitions (M&A) world. Actually, M&A'a are an indicator of healthy business activity, though the total national picture is far from rosy.

My brother used to work in one of CenturyLink's NOCs and I've heard stories how horrible that network is, so I'm hoping it doesn't turn Qwest into the same thing?

It sounds like a worse company overall, but this is just from things I hear, no real facts

If CenturyLink's customer service is even minimally better than Qwest, then it would be an improvement. I have refused to use Qwest for many years because they are the absolute worst!

It's all part of the plan. Centurylink along with all other telcos in the US will eventually be eaten by AT&T. So they can once again be a monopoly, and gouge us all on prices. Expect to see ever increasing rates, along with absolutely no improvement in service. The US will continue to have the most expensive and slowest internet speeds, in the world. And the FCC will let them do it, because they will donate billions to the right politicians.

I think it SUCKS whenever any locally headquarted company gets bought out-- that means fewer good jobs in Denver, worse job market here for everybody.
