Hi All,

I created an account after sporadic lurking just to ask this question.

How long are the waitlists for charter schools at the kindergarten level? If they are on the lottery system, what is the applicant to matriculant ratio? If they are on a first come first serve system, how early does one have to submit a letter of intent?

Thanks,

F.

I'm not very familiar with charter schools, but I think that there is no across-the-board standard. Each charter school is self-governing (even though they are part of the public school system), so you would have to contact each school individually to get answers to your questions. The fall session starts in mid-August in some school districts, so you may be too late for the 2011-2012 school year.

Generally, schools conduct their open enrollment period in January or February. They have a lottery, then they make their wait lists. Unless you are very lucky, you will not get a child in the charter school of your choice at this point in time. It would certainly be in your best interests to put in an app if you really want your kid in a certain school. Miracles happen.
