Dogs belong outside and cats belong inside. Dogs should be on a leash unless well-trained and in a park that allows dogs. People that walk dogs and don't pick up their #2 are disgusting pigs.

Cats that are turned loose outside are prone to causing trouble in the neighborhood, diseases, and getting killed by predators. I don't like seeing "barn cats". They all have that funky eye problem.

Cats odors can be minimized. Dogs' urine can get right into that wood subfloor and ruin a house too.

lol, well I hope I don't actually fall into that category just yet

Thanks to all for the comments though, it did make me realize that, as in many things, the actions of a few result in consequences for the majority! My cats are very well trained (as have the cats I have owned over many years) but seems that many are not! Also the allergy thing was something I had not really thought about but is a valid reason to not accept them in rental properties. Shall just limit my search to those properties that are happy to negotiate, and ultimately if I decide to stay in the US I will at that stage buy rather than rent!

Guess who cleans the catbox? That's right. Me. I'm the only one on the planet who cleans those things often enough, the way they should be. Whenever I housesit for friends and family who have cats, nasty. If you're not cleaning those cat boxes at least twice/week, that's cat abuse and house abuse imo.
I firmly agree with you on the box cleaning issue; we have 4 cats (that share two large boxes), and they both get scooped daily. Takes less than 5 minutes and everyone is happy. IMHO, spraying happens sometimes due to an improperly maintained box. You wouldn't want to use a pluggedup toiled full of crap, would you? Eeeeewwww.

We've also been cat owners for years and years and have never had any of them spray.
