I hear a lot of complaints on these boards about "SoCal traffic" but is that mostly confined to LA or what? I've been in San Diego a while and have yet to encounter any seriously bad traffic. However - I do see a lot of traffic the opposite direction that I am going. In the mornings I drive South and East, in the afternoons I drive home, North and West. I don't experience too much traffic, but it does look like a logjam going on for the people on the other side of the freeway going South and East in the afternoons. What am I missing here? When people say "SoCal bad traffic", is that what they mean? Do they mean mostly LA traffic? And finally - how does Denver's traffic compare to San Diego's, for the people that have transplanted there?

Have you ever tried to get from OC to SD down the 5 on Saturday afternoon? Ugh. LA definitely has to worst of it but OC isn't far behind. When "rush hour" is 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon, something's wrong. I found Denver traffic to be much easier than OC traffic.

I have live in Orange county for 20 years and 6 in San Diego. You have been really lucky with traffic. I'm a stay at home mom and travel even off times and still traffic all the time. The 5fwy south is like a parking lot. EscapeCa is right don't try and go eith direction on a Saturday there is usually one jam you get into. Side streets are even more congested I live in North county and just today it took me 30 min to go 5 miles. I'm hoping Denver is better.

We live in Monument and only drive occasionally to Denver. IMHO the Denver traffic is not nearly as bad as San Diego. We lived in San Marcos and the 5,15, and 78 were horrible. Denver traffic can be bad, but not as consistent and not nearly as long. There's just a whole lot more people in SD.

Denver traffic is bad, and Denver drivers are bad, but California traffic and drivers are worser than WORSE. I took a trip to San Diego this summer, driving around on their freeways was pretty scary. The only consolation is the freeways there are built in scenic canyons, whereas Denver freeways are just plain ugly.

Denver traffic is like a walk in the park compared to LA/OC/SD. I lived down there for years (was in the Marines and drove from OC to Oceanside, and down to SD a lot back then). We have rush hour(ish) here, not rush day.

I lived in San Diego for 16 years and I'll take Denver traffic any day. Try driving the I-5 between Carlsbad and SD. Even on a Sunday there is stop and go. I drove Hwy 52 to I-15 everyday to work in RB and somedays it would take me an additional 45 mins or longer to get home than when there was lighter traffic. I often went the back way through Poway and Lakeside to get home, but that was not much faster. When I was in the Navy, my commute to and from the naval station along I-8/I-15/I-5 wasn't much fun either.

With the T-Rex project complete the commute into downtown Denver has improved greatly. "Rush hour" here doesn't last as long as it did there. I just wish they would expand C-470.
